In collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and the heirs of the celebrated Milanese architect, Molteni&C has reconstructed one of the rare pieces of furniture Gio Ponti conceived for outdoor living: the D.150.5 lounge armchair/daybed. The silhouette is defined by two distinctive signatures. The first is an unbroken side line that draws together backrest, seat, armrests, and footrest in a single, continuous gesture, shaping an elongated profile that honours Ponti’s principle that a piece’s purpose should be instantly legible at first glance. The second is the corner radius between seat and backrest, precisely matching the specification Ponti set down in his construction notes for the 1953 Distex model—now reissued by Molteni as D.153.1. Crafted in solid teak, the piece highlights the excellence of high-grade joinery and the integrity of fine woodworking. The cushions feature a polyurethane core, wrapped in a recyclable polyester fabric.
